Construction begins in Feltham

Thu 21 March 2019, 1:37 pm

A ground-breaking ceremony marked the start of construction at a landmark housing development in Feltham this month.

The Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Samia Chaudhary, cut the turf at a site off New Road where 120 apartments are set to be created by Fairview New Homes.

The development will offer one, two and three-bedroom apartments in seven blocks, which will range from four to ten storeys high, in a boost to the area’s housing supply.

The site, which was previously home to a disused Labour Club, six residential properties and a car park, borders the Longford River.

Planning permission for the homes was granted in September last year, and the old Labour Club and properties were demolished in February.

There will be 25 homes available for affordable rent, and a further 23 offered through shared ownership.

Hounslow Council leader Steve Curran said: “Increasing housing supply is part of our strategic plan for the regeneration of Feltham and Heston.

“We have worked very closely with Fairview New Homes and the GLA, to ensure that the 40 per cent strategic target for affordable housing is met.”

Andy Georgiou, sales and marketing director at Fairview New Homes, said: “As a company, we take pride in regenerating disused brownfield sites into thriving new communities and we are excited to be breathing new life into this site in Feltham.

“The old Labour Club had been left vacant and redundant for several years and our acquisition of the site will enable us to provide much-needed housing in Feltham as the town continues to grow.”

As well as providing the new homes for Feltham, Fairview New Homes plan to fund a new footbridge over the Longford River connecting the development to the nearby Glebelands Park.

They will also provide a footpath along the river’s banks from New Road. Fairview New Homes will finish construction on the first apartments at this development by July 2020.
